Kmart is having a Layaway Sweepstakes that will run through November 17, 2012. Simply place an item in layaway, either online or at your local Kmart store and you will have a chance to win $500 toward your layaway balance. 12,350 winners will be selected, one every week at every store, as well as one per week from online orders. This sweepstakes is open to U.S. residents age 18 or older.

No doubt this giveaway was inspired by last year's Secret Santa phenomenon that was sparked when an anonymous donor paid off a young father's Kmart layaway balance in Omaha, Nebraska. That single, generous gesture led to hundreds of Kmart layaway accounts being paid off by do-gooders across the country.
