Black Friday is the biggest sales day of the year and the best time to buy almost everything. The problem? It's not until November 29.
Luckily, some retailers throw Spring Black Friday sales. True to the Black Friday formula of massive store-wide sales, these events feature discounts on practically everything these retailers sell. But, they're not quite the same as actual Black Friday sales. While real Black Friday features discounts on tech, clothing, toys and home items, Spring Black Friday sales concentrate more on home goods and outdoor items.
Here are the retailers throwing Spring Black Friday events this year -- plus, a list of what you should buy during Spring Black Friday sales and what you should buy during real Black Friday in November.

Ace Hardware Spring Sale
The Ace Hardware Spring Sale runs until April 15 and features discounts on fertilizer, lawn mowers, patio furniture and grills. For some deals, Ace Rewards members get additional discounts.

The Home Depot Spring Black Friday sale runs until April 17 and features up to 35% off on a variety of home goods and gardening supplies. Deals include:
- 25% off Nest Smart Learning thermostat (3rd Gen.): This puts the cost of this item at $249.
- Up to 35% off appliance special buys: These include kitchen appliances, washers and dryers. The biggest savings come when you buy items as a set or suite.
- Up to 20% off grills and smokers: Your savings may be more modest, depending on the model, but some high-end models are upwards of $100 off.
- Up to 30% off lawn mowers: From push mowers, to cordless mowers, to riding lawn mowers, practically all are on sale.
- Up to 25% off tools: It wouldn't be a Home Depot event without power tool deals, and brands like Milwaukee, Dewalt and more are on sale.
- Various savings on gardening supplies: Savings range from a few bucks off fertilizer, bags of mulch, shovels and rakes, to bigger discounts on tree-pruning equipment.
Lowe's Spring Black Friday
The Lowe's Spring Black Friday sale runs until April 17 and features up to 50% off select items, including:
- Up to 35% off Appliance Special Values: Plus, get free local delivery on major appliances over $396. The biggest savings come when you buy sets.
- Up to 50% off gardening supplies: Various fertilizers and lawn repair mixes are 50% off. Plus, get in-store-only savings, such as five-for-$10 deals on mulch, vegetables and herbs.
- Up to 30% off mowers and other outdoor power equipment: Save on mowers of all kinds, chainsaws, leaf blowers and more.
- Up to 30% off grills and smokers: Whether you're looking for a propane or gas grill, there are plenty to choose from, including options under $150.
- Up to 25% off lighting and ceiling fans: If you're revamping your home's interior, you're in luck. Ceiling fans, vanity lights, pendants, chandeliers, wall sconces and more are all discounted.
Overstock Spring Black Friday
The Overstock Spring Black Friday Blowout sale runs until April 18 and features up to 70% off across several categories:
- Up to 20% off select furniture: This includes kitchen, living room, bedroom and office furniture.
- Up to 20% off select rugs: The sale includes area rugs, starting at 5'-by-8' in size. This particular sale runs a bit later, until April 19.

Walmart Spring Savings Day
While not being billed as a "Black Friday in the Spring" sale, the Walmart Spring Savings Day sale (April 10 and 11) amounts to the same thing -- a huge store-wide sale on home goods. Vacuums and kitchen appliances, in particular, make a strong showing in this sale:
- Instant Pot LUX60 6 Qt 6-in-1 for $64.99 (34% off): Been on the lookout for an Instant Pot deal? This model will likely go even lower on Prime Day, if you can wait. If you can't, snap it up for about one-third off the regular price.
- Roomba by iRobot 680 Robot Vacuum for $239 (19% off): This isn't the first time we've seen this price, but it's a decent deal on Roomba's entry-level model.
- bObsweep PetHair Robotic Vacuum Cleaner and Mop, Rouge for $189.99 (17% off): Get a robotic vacuum cleaner for under $200 with this deal.
- Char-Broil Signature TRU-Infrared 4 Burner Gas Grill for $399 (40% off): This deal gets you a serious grill upgrade on a model that usually carries a sticker price of $669.

What to buy at Spring Black Friday sales -- and what to wait to buy on Black Friday
Buy now
Grills: Black Friday will offer some great grill deals, but the selection will be much smaller -- only one or two models will be deeply discounted. So, shop during the Spring Black Friday sales to maximize both savings and selection.
Outdoor and gardening equipment: Because actual Black Friday is in November, sales won't be heavy on the stuff you'll need for spring (mulch, fertilizer, gardening tools, etc.). So pick those items up now.
Wait to buy
Smart home items: The Spring Black Friday sales have some respectable smart home deals, but prices will be much better on Black Friday. For example, Home Depot is offering the Nest Thermostat (3rd Gen.) for $249, but we saw this item for $179 last Black Friday.
Appliances: Appliance savings tap out at 35% during the Spring Black Friday sales. Black Friday sales tend to go a bit higher (40%) and offer other instant-savings offers when you buy two or more appliances.
It's a toss-up
Power tools: If you need an impact driver or other power tool for your spring renovation projects, take advantage of the springtime Black Friday sales. If you want to wait until November, you'll still save -- based on last year's ads you'll find similar sales on Black Friday.
